The Firefox Business Model April 23, 2006
Hey,
Maybe you just woke up this morning and you’re like in your forties and just getting by financially. Don’t recoil. This be a friendly probe. This is also the part where I get scared because this sounds a little too Anthony Robbins-ish — lol. Well, if that proves to be the case, then I am sorry. But, I am feeling truly inspired, giddy even. I find myself in the Karmically-Golden place of being able to do something wonderful for people I will likely never meet. Hopefully, a lot of them.
There’s something really amazing happening on the Web right now. The people who know about it are living and breathing it. It feels a little like Julie Andrews must have felt in that “Sound of Music” arms-spinning-round-and-round scene on the emerald hillock. I’m sure you’ve seen it.
I’ve written a little more seriously about it on another page, which I will link you to in a moment. But the gist is this: Google fucking rocks. They have all the best ideas over there, and the things they are doing are so beautiful, so altruistic, so breathtakingly visionary, that they bring a dopey tear to the heart of a nerd like me. There’s a great deal to read. There’s a great deal of importance to become informed about. I hope you will. But, if this is all you ever read about it, take this away with you: Democracy, like the Founding Fathers conceived it in their fondest dreams, is coming… and it’s coming to the Web. If that sound like something you want to support, then do one thing for me. Get that POS Microsoft browser off your machine right now, and install Firefox… what a browser could be.
Here’s that link to more information about Google, Firefox and Opensource
